Speaker: Mike Weimer

He will be presenting how to do basic fixes that are quick and easy using picassa2.

He was self-taught in the beginning and then received a certificate advanced photography. He went on to pursue a career as a portrait and wedding photographer. His favourite subject has always been landscapes and nature...working first with a 35 mm slr and then a medium format camera. Like many people, he made the transition to digital which offers the advantage of a digital darkroom (the computer) and he was able to offer his clients more opportunities.

Business and Information Meeting at 7:00 pm

Peter will be stimulating the Christmas shopper in all of us by showing some of the latest in photographic equipment and accessories, from the smallest "stocking stuffer" to the latest "must have" on your wish list!

2.        "You just spent money on a new camera … so … how are you going to print your photos?"
Peter brings many years of photo printing experience to our camera Club meeting. He will discuss and show samples of images made from digital files that have printed in various ways (ie home printer, colour copier, "mass market" machine printing, custom-printing on a lab-quality printer with operator input …)

Speaker: Stewart Vincent

FEBRUARY Thursday 7th @ 7pm (top of page)

Speaker: Barb Rowlardson

Barb will be discussing conceptually-based photography in art and mixed-media work that includes photography. Since many have more than one interest/skill in the arts, it will spark some ideas of how to integrate photography into other areas ie. painting, sculpture, weaving, sewing etc.

Barb will be showing examples of some Canadian and international artists' work, and speak on her own current project. This will bring creativity to our photography.

MARCH Thursday 6th @ 7pm (top of page)

Speaker: Dave Burton

Dave will be speaking to us about macro work.

Since then he has been employed in the Photography industry as a salesman, store manager and lab manager.technician. He has been shooting on a freelance basis for the past 10 years or so, doing weddings, portraits and events. The photography he does for himself tends to fall into two major categories Concert Photography and Macro Photography.

APRIL Thursday 3rd @ 7pm (top of page)

Speaker: Paul Mather

Paul will be presenting "Creating a video story from your stills".

Paul will be showing us what can be done, even with a minimal investment and what can be done with a few key pieces of software. Starting with Windows Movie Maker, which is a simple "free" program, Paul will go through the process of selecting and editing a slide show. He will then show some of the additional effects that can be added using Premiere.

Paul is currently the Webmaster and Past President of the Barrie (Computer) Users Group. As a long time member of this group, he has provided many presentations on computer topics such as; Photoshop Elements, Premiere, presentation software, creating web sites.

Technology has been a passion for Paul since his youth, even though there wasn't much to work with then. When he was 9 years old, on a family trip in Northern Ontario, Paul found an old box camera and started taking pictures. He experimented with it, learning how to take time exposures and the effect of moving the camera while taking a shot. It wasn't long before his father let him use his camera, a 120 format bellows camera, which he had used as a child himself and brought from England. The world of exposures and focusing was opened up!

By the time Paul got to high school he had graduated to 35mm and developed his own film, prints, worked on school yearbooks and created a short movie. His passion, however, was in special effects, both in the camera and in the printing process. In grade 13, he won first prize in the Appleby College photo contest for a time exposure of a Cathedral window in Montreal. At the end of the 60 second exposure he flipped the camera on the tripod, 90 degrees. The result was a muted halo over the window, which was sharply captured in the center. Paul is currently known particularly for his close-ups of flowers and insects.

As technology improved Paul has tried to make the fullest use of whatever he has. The best pictures have meaning for those who see them. If they invoke memories, feelings, images of experiences in the viewer's mind, then it is a good picture. "You don't need a fancy camera to do this."

Paul currently works with a small 3.1 mp camera and a digital 8mm video camera, creating memories and stories through short slide shows and videos. He has combined his knowledge of film with still photography, creating short "stories"

MAY Thursday 1st @ 7pm (top of page)

Speaker: Ethan Meleg

Ethan will be presenting The Story Behind the Photos.

Behind every great nature photo are stories, adventures and techniques that are as interesting as the photos themselves! In this humorous show, Ethan shares the stories behind his best photos: the techniques and gear he used to get the shots, and the funny (or not so funny) experiences that have happened to him as a pro nature photographer for 15 years. Get ready to laugh, while learning the secrets to making great nature photos

Ethan Meleg is a professional nature photographer from Ontario, Canada. He specializes in photos of outdoor recreation, landscapes, birds and wildlife.

Ethan grew up near Point Pelee National Park, a world-famous birding site in southern Ontario. The park inspired his love of nature, and he often skipped classes to chase songbirds during spring and fall migrations. With an in-depth knowledge of nature, Ethan has led bird and nature tours for fifteen years and is a member of the champion Kowa 'Canadian' Birding Team. In between watching birds and taking photos, he miraculously completed a bachelors degree in Environment and Resource Studies at Trent University.

Ethan is a self-taught photographer. His photos have been published all over the world in books, calendars, brochures, magazines and corporate ads. Credits include: National Geographic books, Ranger Rick books, Forbes Magazine, Canadian Geographic, Wyman Calendars, Lonely Planet books, Cottage Life, Birder's World, Birding, Birdwatch, Wildbird, Living Bird Quarterly, Birder's Journal, National Wildlife, Nature Canada, ON Nature, Canoe & Kayak and many more. At only 34 years of age, Ethan is already established as one of Canada's leading nature photographers.

Ethan lives by the shore of Georgian Bay near the town of Midland, Ontario. His great passion in life is exploring the natural world with his camera, whether on distant travels or in his own backyard.
